It’s always a treat to get to talk drums and drumming and life with drummers I admire and so this interview with Stephen Taylor of The Drum Shop Podcast was an absolute blast.

Stephen Taylor is a professional drummer and educator based in Nashville, Tennessee. He is the founder and owner of Stephen's Drum Shed, an online drum lesson platform designed to help drummers of all skill levels improve through structured, accessible instruction. Taylor began playing drums professionally at age 16, cutting his teeth performing nightly in clubs on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. He later pursued a degree in Jazz Studies at the University of Southern Mississippi, where he studied under notable instructors like Dr. John Wooton.

His career includes touring with artists such as Danielle Peck and the band Lovers and Liars, which was signed to Universal Republic Records between 2010 and 2011. After years of gigging and freelancing, Taylor shifted his focus to drum education, launching Stephen's Drum Shed to share his expertise. The platform offers a membership-based system with comprehensive lesson tracks, weekly content, and a supportive community. Beyond his online school, Taylor has authored three drum method books and has been featured in DRUM! Magazine, as well as collaborating with brands like Zildjian and Vic Firth. He continues to balance teaching with an active playing schedule, living in Nashville with his wife and three children.
