ABOUT MIKE MANGINI

Mike Mangini is a Grammy-winning drummer, composer, songwriter, and music educator renowned for his versatile and prolific career. Born in Waltham, Massachusetts, in 1963, Mangini's journey into the world of music began early, earning him accolades and awards across various genres.

Mangini's prowess as a drummer and songwriter came to the forefront in 2010 when he secured the drum seat for the progressive rock giants, Dream Theater, following a globally televised audition captured in the documentary "The Spirit Carries On." Since then, he has been an integral part of Dream Theater, contributing to albums like Dream Theater, Self-Titled, Distance Over Time, and A View From the Top of the World.

His Grammy journey includes wins and nominations for Best Metal Performance, with notable victories in 2021 for "The Alien" and previous nods for tracks like "The Enemy Inside" (2013) and "On The Backs of Angels" (2011). Beyond Dream Theater, Mangini has showcased his drumming skills with artists such as U.K., John Petrucci, Steve Vai, Tribe of Judah, Extreme, and Dale Bozzio's Missing Persons.

Mangini's excellence extends to drum contests and auditions, winning the worldwide Dream Theater drummer audition in 2010 and securing first place in Boston's Best Rhythm Section All Styles in 1989. His achievements as a drummer also include multiple awards as an outstanding musician in jazz band competitions and various first-place finishes in Battle of the Bands contests.

As a music composer, Mangini released his solo album, "Invisible Signs," in 2023, showcasing his talents as a producer, songwriter, lyricist, and drummer. His composition credits extend to Dream Theater albums and collaborations with artists like Extreme.

In the realm of education, Mangini served as part of Berklee College of Music's Percussion Faculty from 2000 to 2010, earning recognition as a top-tier professor. For both Pearl and Zildjian he was the #1 clinician. His instructional materials, including DVDs like "The Grid," have garnered awards from publications like Modern Drummer Magazine and DRUM! Magazine. Mangini's "Rhythm Knowledge" system, a cognitive and computer science-based learning approach, has gained worldwide attention through international drum magazines.

Beyond his musical achievements, Mangini has been the subject of the award-winning documentary "A Drummer's Dream" and featured on the Discovery Channel's "Timewarp." His commitment to education is further exemplified by his private drum instruction business and solo drum clinic tours.

Mike Mangini's journey from a young percussionist in Waltham to a Grammy-winning drummer and respected educator underscores his dedication, versatility, and impact on the world of music.
