VINTAGE 1950's Slingerland 4pc Radio King Gene Krupa Outfit in Knotty Pine

Details & Notes: A stunning and rare 50's Slingerland Radio King Gene Krupa outfit in a wonderful and uncommon "Knotty Pine" water dip finish. This was made at a pivotal point for Slingerland where the company was transitioning from the former Beavertail style lugs to their 60's style lugs. As such, the holes that were originally drilled for the Beavertail lugs were re-drilled at the factory, resulting in some hole widening and extra holes from re-drilling. The prior owner of this kit has taken mahogany lugs to fill these. The finish is a water dip lacquer, not an actual wood veneer. This was common on some drums of the era, with both Slingerland and Gretsch using water dip paints to create a remarkably real looking faux wood finish. Underneath this finish is white marine pearl. This kit was likely built from existing finished shells to fulfill and order, and since many of the drums of this era actually had their wraps built into the shell ply, Slingerland did not remove the white marine pearl prior to the water dip treatment. To add further unique ness, the snare drum uses a Jasper shell, who Slingerland was known to buy from at times. The snare is a three ply with reinforcement rings. All hardware is clean and fully functional. Floor tom feet have been replaced. The bass drum has two L-arm bases for cymbal holders, though the actual tops are not present.
